Salesforce is on a mission to deliver secure generative AI to more parts of their platform, and Tableau – the leading data visualization platform – is the next candidate to receive the transformation. Tableau GPT will bring generative AI natively into the user experience to help users work smarter, learn faster, and communicate better.
Tableau Pulse is a reimagined Tableau user experience automating data analysis. Powered by Tableau GPT, users can anticipate the data each user needs based on their personal preferences and automatically generate actionable insights.
We’ll explore both of these capabilities – plus the VizQL Data Service for developers, and the new Data Cloud for Tableau features coming later this year.
What Is Tableau GPT?
Availability: In pilot later this year.
Tableau will bring AI natively into the user experience for everyone to tap into, to better understand and interact with their data in a trusted and secure way.
- Tableau GPT is being built on Einstein GPT, the technology that delivers auto-generated AI content, right within the Salesforce platform, with use cases including Slack, sales, service, marketing, commerce, and app builders.
- Surface new insights in a conversational way by simply asking questions within the console.
Tableau Pulse
Availability: In pilot later this year.
Tableau Pulse is a reimagining of Tableau, powered by Tableau GPT – an AI-powered, personalized experience that transforms how people work with data.
- Automated analytics: At the top of the homepage, get an overview of the metrics that need your attention.
- Personalized metrics: Underneath, see the metrics you’re following. Each card shows the latest value of the metric, a visual of the trend, and AI generated insights.
- To learn more, surface insights in both natural language and visual format. You can either take guidance from Tableau GPT prompts or ask your own questions.
- In the example below, the response is pointing to another metric that matters.
- Metadata from Tableau, accessed using an expandable tooltip, enables you to check the underlying data.
- Work through problems with your team directly in Slack or email in the ‘flow of work’ – plus, the experience is mobile-friendly. The same exploration, with AI-generated prompts, can be done in Slack.
In Action: Tableau Pulse (+ Tableau GPT)
Here are examples of how Tableau Pulse (powered by Tableau GPT) will power smarter data experiences:
Example 1: Service Leader
- A service leader can get a digest of the metrics they follow with relevant, timely insights to keep them aware of how their business is doing.
- Tableau Pulse will notify the leader when there’s an unusual decrease in their team’s CSAT score, identify potential causes, such as a high level of active tickets and longer response times.
- When the leader has further questions, they can dig in and Tableau Pulse will help them quickly and easily determine the situation. They can then share these details with colleagues directly on Slack to collaborate and take action.
Example 2: Commerce Leader
- A commerce leader follows metrics like conversion rate, average order value, and customer lifetime value.
- Tableau GPT notices if one of these metrics is off track and digs into what is going on, why things are changing, and what the leader can do about it.
- Tableau GPT then runs analysis on data and presents all the information in a visual and digestible way so the leader can take the appropriate action.
VizQL Data Service
Availability: Generally available later this year.
A new developer capability that allows users to embed Tableau anywhere in an automated business workflow with ease. VizQL Data Service is a layer that will sit on top of published data sources and existing models, allowing developers to build composable data products with a simple programming interface, and helping take the complexity out of query construction and data modeling.
Data Cloud for Tableau
Availability: New features generally available later this year.
Data Cloud (AKA Genie) unifies all of a company’s data across channels and interactions in
single, real-time customer profiles. Data Cloud also supports zero-copy data sharing, which means that users can virtualize Data Cloud data in other databases, making it instantly available to anyone.
New features in Data Cloud for Tableau will provide even more ways to discover insights in customer data.
- Instant Analytics allows users to analyze and visualize any Data Cloud data live inside Tableau and query millions of records with just a click of a button.
- Data Spaces allows users to break out data and processes across multiple brands, departments, or regions, helping derive calculated insights for each segment – such as probability to churn or customer lifetime value – in a single Data Cloud instance.
Summary
Salesforce is on a mission to deliver secure generative AI to more parts of their platform, and Tableau – the leading data visualization platform – is the next candidate to receive the transformation.
We are already witnessing the ways that generative AI will transform how we work, making it exponentially easier for everyone to tap into immense troves of trusted data to do their jobs more efficiently.
Nearly 80% of senior IT leaders believe generative AI will help their organization make better use of data – which business leaders agree is critical for decision-making. However, 41% say they can’t understand their data because it is too complex or not accessible enough, and about one third cite the lack of ability to generate insights from data as an issue for their organizations. This is the gap that Tableau GPT innovations aim to close.
